Do you remember?

Do you remember before type C USB cords?

Before robot vacuum cleaners

Before swiping

Before digital cameras

Before smartphones with cameras

Before you could charge 4 things at once

Before you could charge anything.

Where we had telephone kiosks

And we got paper envelopes with letters inside

Before we could have live chats

With British gas or e.ON

When the children playing out of doors

Were we arguing about which TV programme to watch

When now we have our own screens

When will we stop having sex with another person

Yet we will have to fantasise or look at porn

There will be no exit from our heads

The vacuum cleaner will still work night and day

Do you remember?

Do you remember before type C USB cords

Before robot vacuum cleaners

Before swiping

For digital cameras

Before smartphones with cameras

Before you could charge 4 things at once

Before you could charge anything.

Where we had telephone kiosks

And we got paper envelopes with letters inside

Before we can have live chats

With British gas or e.ON

When the street was busy with women at home and children playing out of doors

Were we arguing about which TV programme to watch

When I know we have our own screens

When will we stop having sex with another person

Yet we will have to fantasise or look at porn

There will be no exit from our heads

Essex cornfields

Saturday was shopping then a walk Epping,Ongar,Finchingfield by car

Reading book reviews and chewing stalks

Buttercups and meadows,Henry Moore

Driving back from Chelmsford, cornfields flamed

Smoke and fire and earth, the sun dismayed

Farmers working hard, a harvest, grain

The sky through mist a cobalt blue displayed

Standon with its fords and wandering cows

Little rivers,Essex, flowing down

The Stort joins with the Lea,a gurglimg sound

Water for the Thames and mossy ground

The earth feels like my body sacrificed

The artist’s canvas stretched ,a matricide

Leaking into earth

My boundaries broken, leaks my soul to earth

Disdained by helpers out flies my own worth

My door won’t close,my body is unsafe

Being cleaned by others seems like rape

No time is free for they come when they will

Losing one’s autonomy can kill

To break into the sacred heart brings death

Destroying or debasing with cold wrath
