She’d never seem rainwater deeper than eyes
Mystery undisguised.
Round the big puddle she ran and ran;
Too much for her dolly’s pan.
By reflections of trees she was hypnotised.
Curiousity’s often so wise
Oh,my dear sister what see you there?
I hope it’s a vision fair.
What are these ships and the tugs and the tide
Where are the sailors who died?
This is an ocean and I’m in my boat
Come sisters dear,let us float.
We’ll never see daddy again, ‘cos he’s here
And down her face travelled one tear.
I see him afar off, he’s meeting the Lord
There’s the archangel with his sharp sword.
We cannot follow,no, we must go back
We each must stay on our own track.
Three little children with long golden hair
On this road going to where?
Once three small sisters ,but now only two;
Eyes of one green, the other’s blue.
By the park gate by a pool of sea rain
We shall be three again.
One in a pushchair and one gripping tight.
I push my dear sisters into the light.
Keep hold of the handle and never let go
I loved my sisters so.
Keep hold of my hands as Dad crosses the sea.
Don’t hope for what cannot be.
I told her it’s only a rainwater pool,
Held in God’s hand like a jewel.
But she saw the patterns and she saw the tides
Which all human beings must ride.
For nothing is “only” and nothing is “just”.
All we can live by is trust

St Margaret’s Bay
St Margaret’s Bay,the lighthouse,the green grass
The Kentish light, the avenues of glass
See across the Channel where they hide
Drowning migrants rolling on the tide.
Who are they,we say in cruel tone ?
Jesus lived in Bethlehem, not Rome
Higher climbs the butterfly in sun .
Disappearing, burnt to Kingdom come

Stitches in my face
On my face you see the surgeon’s scar
You see the holes where stitches were put in.
Above my eye, blue bruises decorate
And yet the work is sacred, is no sin.
The blood hung from my jaw, its skin a bag stitches connected my new face
Jagged stitches joined up my new face
My eyes were black as ink, what have they done?
Where is that fine embroidery, where the lace?
25 injections were my fate.
To let the surgeon do his kindly work.
I’d rather be a postman or a nun
And yet to take the cancer knives must hurt.
Mother, father where are you, I sigh?
Oh brother sister husband, down I lie.
Oh,my dear sister what can you see ?
She’d never seem rainwater deeper than eyes
Mystery undisguised.

The dreams, the metaphors of the mind
I wish we were in Alston steep and fine
The Pennines all around, the lakes nearby.
We walked the Pennine way in our own time.
Your heart was in the hills, to teesdale chained.
You didn’t like the urban sprawl, the blight
I wish we were in Alston now and then
The time has passed we find our memories fade.
I miss you,miss you, miss you, I can’t lie
I wish that we were near high force, that air.
And our;United Kingdom’s in decay.
We saw an eagle but it did not fly
0h every breath we took was like a prayer.
I find it hard to walk without a crutch
I can see but I can’t feel your touch
You would hardly know me now I sigh
I wish you were in Alston by my side.
The dreams, the symbols memories combine.
This is how you’re with me for all time
I am very proud because I’ve tried

A golden sheet

I saw your soul like that of a wild bird
Someone other guided me to act
Deep inside my voice had been unlocked
I sang the psalms and then a lullaby
Not aware in thought that you would die.
I fed you with a teaspoon the mashed fish
From a plate as good as one might wish
Like a little child you tried your best
You smiled at me and gazed like one who’s blessed
You sat up with a brighter face at last
Then lay back and God knows all the rest
Oh, don’t go yet ,my darling,I am here
The floor of heaven came down amidst my tears
Made of sumptuous satin, gold,revered
For a little moment it hung low
Then it rose and took you in its glow
I saw your soul like that of a wild bird
Taken by the Power who spoke the Word
A sheet of tears fell down from my closed eyes
It’s hard ,so hard when those you love must die
Jesus must be free
Jesus does not live within the church
Like the wild birds of the sky he’s free
Jesus is in no parrot with a perch
Nor does he require a bended knee
In the ancient buildings there’s some air
Quiet years of prayer have left a mark.
Yet its sad destructions caused despair.
The abbot of old Glastonbury stark
The restless ashes spread as in the air
The winds of love are heartless yet demure
Would it be a way to make things fair?
If there is a God he must be there.
Not with those who scandal eyes the poor
Soon they’ll have no shoes nor much to wear
Whores do not pay tax, oh what allure.
Christ and Mary Magdalene come by
How economics causes men to lie
The power of mathematics made the bomb
Soon the the earth shall burn to kingdom come.

Contractions
We lose our health we lose our lovers friends
Death comes slow but faster at the end
Now we can’t afford to use the lights
We feebly rage against the coming night.
Once our life expanded as we grew
Every year was filled with actions new.
Marriage job promotion travel fun
We never thought that one day we’d be done.
Who can fight against the dying light?
Once so strong and fierce your heart gave up
Oh my love I miss you in the night..
Filled with sorrow, we must drain the cup.
Aging is like dying everyday
Slowly slowly each life ebbs away

Good for the sick
They are giving out packed lunches in the hospital so make sure your relative has some sharp scissors and Elastoplast plus a plate.
Soon they will get all their meals this way after Microwaves are installed
Alternatively you can bring them food from home. a quiche
will last for 3 days in winter .As will tomatoes.
Or send pizza to the Ward.
We can’t feed everyone.
We are not your Saviour.
If you feel àt death’s door stay at home
Why not shoot yourself and end the torment now?
Irony is good for you
Away from home
I’ve been so far away from home
I’ve been so lonely without you
I heard the ghosts here as they moaned
And they made me feel so blue
We drove past bulging linseed fields
In Suffolk with its bonny views
We stopped to have a meal
I can’t remember how I’ve been
I see that you have gone
And left me weeping here bereft
There’s always been someone
Is this another test?
I can’t live without your smile
Without your eyes and tender hands
Come with me for a while
To play like children on the sands.
Oh sands of Dunwich bay
Where the amber used to hide
I don’t know what to say
I’m sailing out on the
spring tide
Touch me

Holding hands in the dark
Helps us when we cannot talk
Touching, holding, being there
Gives us strength so we can bear
The heavy load, the angst, the care
The holy dove, the hands of love
Down below, up above
Grasp my body, hold me tight
Through the nightmares,give me light
Comfort me, we’re not alone
In the darkness be my home
O cruel sun

The sun appeared but now has left us here
With dull grey sky and trees as cruel as spears
We control our homes as best we can
But. Nature is a Force more strong than Man
Even in our bodies we feel pain
Thus evil is around us like a stain
Why does God all powerful not step in?
When children die, when wars begin again?
When every state has weapons for mass kills
Jesus dies with victims of our Will
We allowed the government our tax
So our evil to the worst is matched

After virtue
After virtue comes the longed for Fall
Man can sin and noone is appalled
Faith of any kind is hard to find
Decisions founder in the deeps of mind.
Proud in self esteem we boast and preen
Caesar smiles then vomits on the Queen
So lonely
Many lonely people
living in one street
Can they get together nie
why don’t they all meet
Noone likes to bare their soul
Others may attack
But if you need more people
You must show us lack.
You are feeling empty
Hollow in your heart
Nobody may notice

You must make a start
Grab your courage strongly
Love is on your chart
Do not wander wildly
Still your gentle heart
Would I were
I wish I were a wild wild goose
And I could fly and seek
Looking for my lost lost love .
With eyes that cannot weep.
What is my life when I love none
And noone loveth me
When all are fled when all are gone
Take me to the sea
I saw the hills I saw the lakes
I saw the mighty ocean
What is beauty what is joy
When my true love is broken
I peck my breast I shed my blood
The pure white goose would die
Take me to the cold. cold earth
Under a cruel white sky
Goldenrod
On Sunday we would stroll to old Deane Road
My brother used to speak in. Code
My baby sister in her pram so bold
Now both have died and passed away
I can’t forget the golden rods and Mum’s coat frayed
The cemetery where we used to pray
Now Mum is dead will there be room for me
I prefer to lie beneath my tree
I hope I shall be eaten like the Host
Though I am no Saviour I have done my best
And crave the peace of nature and her rest.
The church bells ring again in harmony
Asking for some peace and charity
I rode on Daddy s shoulders held his ears
He sang and whistled I wished he was still here

Total love
When the Jews came back to their old homes
They buried them alive in pits they dug
The ground was heaving as the Jews died, choked
Murdered by the neighbours like mad dogs
Hard it is to know what creates this
The sadism happens when we least expect
When old neighbours might greet with a kiss
Now they load the living into stacks
Were they so poor they feared that they would starve
What does Total War mean when it’s said?
The Jews’ land into small pieces was carved
Some Jews came back when locals thought them dead
If only they had not created G-d
They would be given perfect ,total love
