  1. I see that the famous Rivington Gardens on the Leverhulme estate are now under threat. This is particularly sad, in view of the ongoing restoration work that has been carried out over recent years. Lever’s fantasies always fascinated me as a child and I was delighted to re-visit these gardens quite recently.

    1. We used to love them,Mike. There was a magic about them and the hill. Not to mention Anglezarke.I do hope they can save them but they have seen from the helicoptors more people trying to light fires down near the Reservoir…. let’s hope the trend doesn’t take off elsewhere like the riots did in 2011.From Brexit on there has been a self destructiveness about in Britain and a loss of faith in politicians.
I was a bit shocked when a woman who lives near the fire said she’s been making chips for the firemen!Seems a bit foolish top use a chip pan in the vicinity… but as you ,know we live on chips in the North plus tea with lots of sugar.Anglezarke provides water for Manchester I think like Thirlemere does.We all need heavy rain now or the countryside and many species of wild life will be gone for years or forever.
i am glad you have been able to visit it since it was restored and that you enjoyed it as I did when we were children. As you are younger than me we would not have met then.My older brothers took me… I was happy up there

    1. The end of a lot of species of moorland birds and animals and in a placre so much loved.tHe NASA shot in interesting.Thanks,David.Hope your writing is going well… it’s too hot to think here

  2. The very thought that anyone could start a fire like this is appalling. So much natural wildlife at risk…and much more. Hope you enjoy a good day and keep cool – Janet xxx

    1. I agree, it is hard to know why people do these things.I have the doors and windows open .It is rather hot but the light evenings are beautiful.I managed a short break in Waterstone’s book shop which is cool and they have a folding chair specially for me.I like looking at the new books. There’s a good one which I’d never have thought of reading. It is called The White King abd is about Charles 1st
The writing us excellent and the people so real and human that it captured me.

  3. I hesitated to click on “Like” for this blog post. It didn’t feel appropriate to “Like” the pictures you shared, but I wanted to thank you for the post. I t saddens me to see such a fire in such a lovely place. It’s all the more sad if it was set by an arsonist. Please stay safe, Katherine, and keep us posted.
