I have long felt that Plato’s concerns about the fragility of democracy should concern us all. We (the western world) developed a concept of representational democracy that was supposed to avert the worst weaknesses but when the representatives fail to carry out their responsibilities then it becomes a short road to tyranny. In the US, if Congress carried out its duty to the Constitution then President Trump’s excesses would have been controlled. It is a narrow line between democracy and mob rule, which depends on the rule of law being maintained.

Yes that is a very serious problem
I don’t know what the answer is if there is one.
