Acumen in verse

I never had acumen as such;

I trusted in people too much

An innocent   with a  heart

Till  it bled from your dart.

Now I’m cynical and hate  most  men from the start.

Is acumen innate in anyone?

If so my parents passed none on

I don’t like investing

And finance  is testing.

But I love and am loved so I’ve won.

I am finding acumen hard to use

Its  three syllables  make me confused

How to pronounce it

Is too hard,so denounce it.

As we don’t want to feel self bemused.

Fortunately I am not self employed

As accounting  and tax me annoy..

I am a voice in the forest

Humorous and  honest.

But of acumen I am supremely devoid

    1. Thank you so much. That is very kind of you.I had heard of it before but it is an interesting word…strange how m uch Latin and Greek we have in our English language.I am pleased to meet another word lover.

      1. I really love your post about words, their meaning and different uses. I read the Spanish diccionary when I was a boy. It was too boring to repeat the experience with The Oxford Dictionary, you know? But your post are sweet lessons of Shakespeare´s language. Thanks, your student, David 🙂

      2. You have made me feel very happy because I used to teach mathematics and statistics to mature students and people from all over the world. Then later I had to stop. Then I tried writing poetry and studying words and I thought I’d like to share it with others.I noticed more people were reading my posts about words.I am certain we can all learn much more if we have the enthusiasm and the desire. And as I have some chronic pain it takes my mind off it completely… and best of all,we can meet like minded people from other countries. There are some very good writers here not to mention artists and photographers.
Thank you so much,David. It is so nice to know you… and I have more words waiting,My best wishes,Katherine

      3. So you also have a great teaching acumen. Maths or statistics are no jokes 🙂 I agree, usually enthusiasm and desire are necessary to learn. Some just lost them somehow, somewhere… Luckily, you are also right, there are plenty of good writers, artists… and better, curious, kind and friendly people. Speaking of which, in the near future I would love to introduce you all my english teacher, just to thank her the opportunity 🙂 I´ll be biting nails until the next word 😀 Pleasure to meet you, Katherine. Big hug, David.

      4. hahaha you´ve already surpassed the highest expectations! I couldn´t meet her last Monday… She doesn´t know about this blog thing, it will be a surprise for her 🙂
