The limerick way to learn

I never know what clothes to wear
I wish I could socialise bare
A capito ad calcem
I know not to waltz in.
So shall we stay in and play fair?

“A capito ad calcem” means ” from head to heel”.

So you can see capital punishment probably meant beheading!

Before we die

Ante mortem let us trust
For in the grave we turn to dust
Yet though  in life the poor are cursed
Treatment post mortem is just.

The worms and beetles care no more
For the rich than for the poor.
They are happy to devour
Bankers,despots,every hour.

Ante mortem, greed does win
Houses built of gold and sin
But God,who lives in each within,
Cares no more for gold thann tin

As post mortem, all are judged
By the book where sins are lodged
why don’t the rich and famous budge?
Their taxation’s boldly grudged

Give away your weighty goods
Live like daisies by the woods..
Fear not hurricane nor floods
Daises grow even in mud.

More dependent on all power
We trust in madmen’s city towers.
Yet One told us to live like flowers…
And enjoy life for an hour.

Perception is no privilege.
We each have the wits to judge.
See and note where you have smudged
What your creation would allege.

Post and ante, even now
The currents of our hearts allow…
The inner sea which has its flow
To take us where we need to go

Limerick with Latin

Belief in the Lord has decreased
But in Satan belief has not ceased
Advocatas diobili
What an anomaly!
There are many and this is the least
“
“Advocatus diaboli” is the devil’s advocate”,usually used metaphorically I think

Learn Latin and laugh

English News addenda

Not content with passing out at her wedding and fainting on the honeymoon Rose Lee of Houndsden has become unconscious of her duties as a English woman and forgotten to wear a woollen jumper in her underheated home.As a result she is now in an inverted coma at the totally defunct Highlands Hospital where she was said to be “texting”

A woman in Blingford refused to wash up and has been given a penalty point by the judge in nearby Wertex. Her husband has got a chance of winning if he gets his foot out of the door and his key out of the lock.

A man of 90 in Blewcastle on Line won 19 million pounds in the lottery and is getting married on Saturday,Sunday and Monday.
They will honeymoon in Lands End Grotto before going home to give birth to half triplets. His only comment is,Beware of the Gods and the Dogs.He breeds those as well

Postmodernism preys

Postmodernism’s the fashion ne’er manque.
We must study Foucault and his scribes.
Get reason trapped and do not court  delay.
You need to find your intellectual tribe.

Where is the goose which laid the golden egg..
Invented meta-talk and fairy tales?
Which narrative is balanced on a peg?
Which philosopher gets re-homed by a whale?

Where is the whole truth and the nothing but?
Whose ‘ the eye which sees reality?
Who ‘s the judge who makes the final cut?
Where is the God to whom we owed fealty?

Now nothing is what anyone can say.
I understand it’s meaningless to pray

Paul Tillich and I: The Courage To Be

Paul Tillich photo

Tillich 1You know this experience, sometimes when you are browsing in a bookshop you come across a book with a wonderful title. This happened to me as  student when I saw a book with this title:

“The courage to be ”

by Paul Tillich

I was going through a hard time and just the title alone helped me as no one I knew had ever said it takes courage to live well.So I bought this book and dipped in. I found it interesting and thoughtful.Sometimes I would just look at the front cover and repeat the title.I had discovered mantra meditation.in a sense.

This morning I was listening to a radio programme  about poetry in England and tidying up. Suddenly my old battered copy fell out of a shelf and into my hand. And I said, thank you. Because I had  lost this companion and now it’s restored to me when I need again to say the words to help me in a personal crisis.

The Courage to Be

And to recognise the power of words on the human mind and thus to take care of  self and others and what we say to them for they too are struggling humans as we ourselves are.

And to discover virtue is not faux piety which suddenly reminded me that Tillich had a weakness for women. He was no plaster saint. I am not saying. I approve.

Had he stayed in Germany he would no doubt have been imprisoned even killed like Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He would not have been silent

Books… they save lives. I was so grateful and still am for education, books, people who talk to me .Had I lived a few years earlier it would have been different.

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/595850/Paul-Tillich/7266/Development-of-his-philosophy

Tillich was expelled from Germany in 1933,the first non-Jewish theologian to have this honor bestowed on him.I never saw him but I love him for his writing.

Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses the glory of being alone.

Roaming through wild poppy fields

In the land which dreams dwell in,

where love  and hate and life begin;

where swiftly the deep rivers flow

from lost lands of long ago.

I wander through wild poppy fields

Underfoot the sweet earth yields….

I see the flowering fruit trees start.

Their blossoms gather round my heart…

I hear the sparrows sing with joy

And bees their busy wings employ.

In those lost lands I saw your face

And now I long for your embrace.

Are you real or make believe?

From this earth we all take leave.

Earth to earth and ash to ash

Glory,pride and boasting pass.

Leave me now,my ghostly one

Soon I too will be called on.

Nothing lasts but truth is real

Keep the faith and your ideals..

Earth to earth ,we’ll rest in clay

We must gi ve ourselves away

Softly on this earth I roam

Seeking my love and my home

and until the very end

Love eternal may descend

Interesting NY Times column by Rebecca Newberger Goldstein:

It began when a writer friend asked me what my Klout score was. We were sitting at the sushi bar of a Japanese restaurant, the master chef assembling edible origami of torched fish and foam. My husband and I used to patronize this neighborhood place quite a lot, until a restaurant critic ruined it for us by his unrestrained rave, so that now you have to make reservations months in advance. But my friend had magically procured us two seats just like that, and when I asked him for the secret of his influence he responded by asking me about my Klout score.

I didn’t know what a Klout score was, but I was pretty sure I didn’t have one. And yes, under his raised-eyebrow questioning, it was revealed that since I didn’t use Facebook or Twitter or any of the other…

My cliche day

If you are wondering why I write these cliche based sentences,I do it for amusement and also it can throw up ideas which I use in my writing. It’s a bit like fishing

A disgrace that launched a browsing app happened by sheer misfortune when her pyjamas fell down

My web rage is uncalcuble,my spelling is distractable.

He had a face which launched a thousand quips

She had  lace  which taunted a  horde of lips

Trace my musings on my blog journal: A woman’s gay life with men and other tales of joy and woe

Falls and doubts:my life story in briefs

Her face derailed a thousand apps

Her place emailed a thousand apes

She was bare and fair  but only in the photograph

Hair play banned by crickets on marsh and other news

The fairness was niggling at him..wait and be,she cried but no, he had to do and so he did

Tete a rumpli ;

.Overworked?Don’t persecute yourself; let us do it for you

Police believed me,and I’m set to go with the blow

I no longer live through him.

Faith will be moved by haunting the Bible

Do not fall on my words. They are paper thin

Fall on a bard and get a licking.See the phone app now!

Spiritual verses

  • Gravity
Oh, cradle my soul in your light
  • As I am in darkness tonight.
  • Fill me with your love
  • On earth,not above.
  • Your touch is both gentle and bright.
  • Seeing and feeling are one.
  • As senses conjoin yet are none.
  • I know it is so
  • The darkness shall glow
  • You are both god and person.
  • It seems like the heavens are weeping
  • Rain and snow fall while we’re sleeping
  • The clouds are grey black
  • As Northward they trek.
  • As for records, are they all we are keeping?
  • We dwell in a body of flesh
  • With others we love to enmesh.
  • Let’s get up and dance now
  • Love shows us how…
  • We dance to the tunes that refresh
  • We humans need meaning to create
  • The meaningless can agitate.
  • But stories abound.
  • Pick the best you have fo found
  • Get in there and start to narrate
  • In nature time goes round and round
  • Life’s a spiral, the wise man has found.
  • Each time I pass you
  • I see you anew
  • Until gently we are laid in the ground.
  • The end is the beginning, they say.
  • So say what is important today.
  • For time flows like a stream;
  •  What is ,soon has been.
  • So we are foolish to encourage delay

Eyes and ears

I once was employed as a spy
But then I went blind in one eye,,
However they just said,.
Use both ears instead,
I still cannot see but I try,

Later I was employed as a cook
To look up receipts in cookbooks.
But try as I might
Without my eyesight
I saw nothing however long I looked

Men sheep

  •  feel so sorry for the bookworms that lived in the caves alongside the first humans. They must have gnawed on bones for thousands of years until someone opened a library.
When you say someone opened a library it makes it sound like a tin of soup.
Yes,think of the waste of tinned food till somebody invented the electric tin opener.
    It makes me think.
    What about?
    The tragedies all around us.
Like the worms tha live in the soil underneath the London Eye.
How about the bats that lived in Stratford until that gigantic shopping centre was opened.
Still I must admit it’s been very good news for all the shoplifters in East London where there were no shops worth lifting.
And all the thieves who had no rich people to steal from.
What about all those writers who lived before alphabets were invented and so they had to become artists instead
It’s enough to make a man weep.
Oh,I wouldn’t go as far as that.
    No,you always were faint hearted…
Well, heart transplants may have been invented but I don’t want one,
    Do you want two?
    I am indecisive.
    I’m under sized
    Lucky sized!
    Give over.
    Why?
You might make me laugh and comedy may not have been invented yet.
    what a tragedy.
    Let’s cry…if it’s been invented!
    I’ll weep if not.
  • How lucky we are that reading had been i nvented as what would we do with our writing otherwise

You are of this earth

You came to be here gradually,
from the whirling chaos of the dreaming infant,
anchored by the maternal hand to earth.
Do not try to fly back to heaven today.
Be patient;your guides will, with no effort,
Teach you the patterns and the dance.
All you need is to be open and to trust,
For you have a place in the world.
We need your contribution.No-one else
will see this world from your perspective.
And as you trust the chaos now, fear it not
Should it return.Every creative act
involves the breaking of these barriers
by which we keep the chairs and tables
anchored into themselves. The patterns may break up
but new ones are somewhere near.Patience
with this suffering is the only route now.
You cannot go back.Heaven comes only after
you have grown roots into this earth,
grown sunward,and travailed the storms
and stinging blows;
have grown your flowers and leaves
And let them fall.
Accept.
The only way you can go
is the earthly way.
You are part of us.
We love you.
Our hands are reaching out
If you just lift your eyes.
In the Chaos,God danced and rainbows
Flew from his hands and tears fell from his eyes.
Those tears which fertilised our earth.
He wept, knowing of the pain to come;
And yet,he did not cease to dance.

How to Format Your Book for Self Publication

Andy Baldwin's avatarBookstand Publishing

Here are the basics steps on formatting your manuscript in Microsoft Word for self publication.   These steps include including setting up the correct trim size, setting up the correct margins, formatting the text, and numbering the pages.

  • Be sure your book is in ONE electronic file.

I asked, why do you smoke when we kiss?

Image

My husband is so enigmatic

he makes  Mona Lisa  dramatic.

Except for the night

The bed set alight

And he screamed on a scale near chromatic.

I said, why do you smoke when we kiss?

Apart from that, love is pure bliss

He said,my heart is on fire,

The smoke ascapes via

My mouth. my nose,my desire

Amusement, engagement, estrangement
Downright disassociation with life

Imperfection scares, even your dearest
Runs away, real ones stay, they don’t mind the pain

I wear my heart

I wear my heart displayed upon my face.
Attentive readers find their meaning there..
Where feelings thought too deep to be embraced
Can shine demurely where they do not scare.

As Freud observed we’re never quite disguised
Betrayal is our body’s real motif
The message comes conspicuous from the eyes..
Bright sparkles or your tears of blackest grief.

The answer to a question seemly leaps
So Yes or No is visibly revealed.
The blush that spreads so fast across the cheeks
Both bold and shy unable to conceal.

Your face tells me you lied when “Love” you wrote.
Yet let us part with song as we are poets.

He was my epiphany

Loose in the fields of green…
Oh, my own lover!
He was such a bold flirt;
with his love unclaimed,
he could recite George Boole
he was one of the old Cool.
He never reached his goal.
so with my bling and some flair
I hoped he’d open the enchanted bud
To the music of his lyre.
I’ll pray this for him:
T hat he should find what he wreaks
and write it down with a stylus.
Really he is the allurement of angels
He was my epiphany
Make it up, as the clocks clang..
It’s not really you…it’s just an affliction.
I can do nothing for my calves
It’s because of all the punning I did once.
I can’t even lump a stone over a wall now.
My arms are as weak as Trojans.
I never suffer viruses to be declassified.
Like I said, just wink and say a prayer..

Poetry

Poetry, I think, intensifies the reader’s experience. If it’s a humorous facet of the story, poetry makes it more exuberant. If it’s a sad facet, poetry can make it more poignant.

Word 2010: Differences with Word 2007

Rhonda's avatarCyberText Newsletter

A couple of months back I wrote a post on my first impressions with Word 2010, and a few weeks after that I mentioned some excellent videos on Word 2010’s new features made by TCANZ.

I’ve since used Word 2010 some more, and have jotted down some of the differences between it and Word 2007, as well as some other new features I found (some of which are the subject of separate blog posts).

Except for the File, Word Options and Help sections, I’ve arranged these according to the order on the Ribbon.

File

  • Yes! Thank you, Microsoft, for the return of the File option.
  • File options are clear and easy to use. Some excellent user assistance is available with each option, particularly the Print and Save and Send options.
  • Document information is useful.
  • Finding your own templates is much harder as they are stashed away under a…

On barren ground

When you struck me,I vibrated like a kettle drum,
then as smaller percussions and repercussions
echoing from all the glassy surfaces
creating a balletic geometry of sound tracks
in space and time.

When you knocked me down,
I fell against her and her and her;
we were like a row of skittles
and we all went down with the lifeboat;
The infinite chain of being is.

When you hit me,the Fall spread across the world
Now there is no Vertical
All is undivine and graceless.
By the Rod it’s ruled

When you left me,I left myself,the world,the rocks,dry land
I weighed down sank to the ocean bed
with coral eyes
gazing.

When you struck my mind
I became an instrument of a foreign power
Singing a song I didn’t know.

When the glass was smashed
the splinters flew into all our hearts.
You didn’t know what we couldn’t see.

I lay on barren ground and gave birth
To my own Creator in the desert.

And,on the world, shall I bestow my wrath?

Apples with blue and greenWhen true love’s gone

              and doom hangs over head,

When life runs like a river to the sea,

Then, shall I take new lovers to my bed,

And with their carnal touch consoled be?

When true loves lie and break my woman’s heart,

When life seems grey and rocks bestrew my path,

Then, shall I my life of evil start,

And, on the world, shall I bestow my wrath?

When true loves lie and wreck all loyalty;

When puzzlement makes all the world seem mad;

Then I shall upend causality

And let myself do deeds which make me glad.

For I have love’s own child inside my soul

And I shall tend her till at last  she’s  grown

A kind review of my poetry on “Dancing with Fireflies”

Intriguing poet

kushtrimthaqi's avatarkushtrimthaqi

“Very good natured and extremely sweet, Kushtrim and I laughed about my silly mistake and I actually spent some time looking at his blog.  Kushtrim didn’t write just one amazing piece, but many pieces that have a beautiful flow and melody to them. I have stubbornly claimed not to like poetry, but I am hard-pressed to find anything I don’t like about his work. Not to mention, upon meeting him.. his peaceful heart flows from him into his words. And I have to admit it, I had a fangirl moment.  I was a little scrambled and hopefully he won’t hold that against me.”
