When yet another over boiled egg

When yet another dust ball is discovered
Hiding in the bookcase near the bed.
I ponder on the process which produced it
As I sit here gobbling up a large boiled egg.

When yet another stain upon the carpet
Cannot be removed by water, work or foam.
I wonder if I’m cut out for housework.
This is certainly not a human’s Ideal Home.

But let me not waste time on fussy cleaning.
Life is far more precious than is dirt.
I’ll change my dress and put on perfume.
And take a two hour course in how to flirt.

For life can be so painful we must laugh.
Above all, never muse on Sylvia Plath

  1. I’d skip the course on how to flirt. I knew someone once who said it was fun to flirt. Then I met her again a few years later, much subdued. She had discovered that emotions can kick in and been badly hurt. Does anyone really believe in the ‘happy ending’ to Cosi fan Tutte?

    1. Don’t worry,Mike.I am not the sort of person who could flirt even if I wanted to do.And in fact someone I know flirted with a man at a party for ages then hi wife left him.Ironically the flirter told me sh hates sex…I think some people flirt all the time perhaps without knowing…
I feel it’s a bit dangerous especially for relatively innocent people like myself.I’d probably accidentally offend the man.I don’ even realise when someone flirts with me.I sometimes write things because they rhyme and at the moment I have no interest in men or women in that way.I prefer to talk about books or whether Guy would have liked Jeremy Corbyn.I am annoyed he died before the result came out as I relied on him in political judgments etc.. very old fashioned but he knew more and had more knowledge.Thank you for your ccomment,Katherine

      1. It’s remarkable how many English words are derived from other languages….a basic knowledge of the Classical Languages – and Indo-Germanic ones – enables one to pick them up in English. πŸ˜‰

      2. More are Greek than I had supposed and yes,Dutch is like Anglo-Saxon.I wish we did that in school as it could help children to connect things.xx..
