My heart

I wanted to buy a new heart
I didn’t know where to start.
I tried shops of all kinds
For new hearts and minds.
But I found none were for sale,
Not even by mail.
My credit was bust.
I was still alive just.
Then a worm spoke to me.
The ants made me tea.
The slugs helped me crawl
So I could sit on the wall.
The blackbird sang high,
As clouds floated by.

Then I felt my heart glow.
I love  sweet song so.
And down on the ground,
There’s a home to be found
In the earth’s heavy soil,
Where small creatures toil

I cannot fall down,
If I’m here on the ground.
I see life anew,
From this point of view.
The trees look so grand
As proudly they stand.
There’s a stillness and calm,
I am healed of my harms.
I look up at the sun,
Evening has come.
Rest in the night.
Turn off the light.
Let your other self
Restore you to health.

Wittgenstein and the ladder

Oh, Wittgenstein ‘s writing’s divine.
I wish his thoughts were each mine.
I  understand just a few.
But they make me see anew.
I hope my own work will grow fine

Wittgenstein is an artist so true.
He created his meanings for you.
Language was  perception.
Or should that say conception?

I’ll leave that decision for you!

He appeals to more artistic minds.
In his work,  he gives hints for the blind.
I climbed his ladder up the fence.
What strange happenstance.
I always knew blackbirds were kind

Now the ladder has gone, disappeared.
But no one’s up here, I feel weird
From the fence to the roof.
I discovered a new truth.
Climbing’s not an act to be feared.

If you alter the place where you  stand,
You get an alternative view of your land.
New perspectives give us pause.
Don’t be hasty with laws,
Reality will  make its own demands.

Wittgenstein quote from "Foundations of Mathematics"

“The philosopher is the man who has to cure himself of many sicknesses of the understanding before he can arrive at the notions of the sound human understanding. If in the midst of life we are in death, so in sanity we are surrounded by madness.

Carnap on Wittgenstein

When I met Wittgenstein, I saw that Schlick‘s warnings were fully justified. But his behavior was not caused by any arrogance. In general, he was of a sympathetic temperament and very kind; but he was hypersensitive and easily irritated. Whatever he said was always interesting and stimulating and the way in which he expressed it was often fascinating. His point of view and his attitude toward people and problems, even theoretical problems, were much more similar to those of a creative artist than to those of a scientist; one might almost say, similar to those of a religious prophet or a seer. When he started to formulate his view on some specific problem, we often felt the internal struggle that occurred in him at that very moment, a struggle by which he tried to penetrate from darkness to light under an intense and painful strain, which was even visible on his most expressive face. When finally, sometimes after a prolonged arduous effort, his answers came forth, his statement stood before us like a newly created piece of art or a divine revelation. Not that he asserted his views dogmatically … But the impression he made on us was as if insight came to him as through divine inspiration, so that we could not help feeling that any sober rational comment of analysis of it would be a profanation

Death is not an event in life: we do not live to experience death. If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.

No she’s naive and an artist.
    That’s unusual.They seem a cunning lot.
Well, she makes no money from it.
Well, that must be hard these days. She could just boil a kipper
and nail it to a plank and call it “The Crucifixion.”
    Hang on a mo,I can’t find my pen.#
It’s here stapled to a plank and labelled “Write you are.”
    Can I borrow your pen?
What do you think I am ,naive? Here’s a pencil stub.
Now,what was I going to right down?
Yes,you have gone right down. You’re practically on the sea bed.
Well, better than a bed of nails.

    It’s money I want.
Well., boil two kippers,a tampon and a hanky.
That will be your tea, unless you glue it all together and call it the dilemma of modern womanhood.
    What’s the dilemma?
Whether ’tis better to take kippers against a sea of trouble.
I don’t think the herrings will like that.I certainly don’t.

That’s lucky because how would they…..
No,it goes straight into the bleedin’ sea.
Well, when you see what we’ve put into it,the fish may very well start to menstruate shortly.
Give me that pencil.I see money in this.Mini-tamps for female fish.
But how would you advertise them?
Don’t they have i-phones or i-pods or ITV?
    No,only the scales of justice.
I wonder if I could sell them deodorants?
That sounds a bit fishy to me.
    Smells a bit fishy too.

Life,love and loss

snail abflowers5639
The brightness of the summer light,
The songs of birds whose brood take flight,
I love to soak up earthly pleasures,
And so to fill my mind with treasures.

The conversations with my friends,
The closeness only death will end,
To share my life with those who care,
How could we have better fare?
Anemone
Those who suffer pain and grief,
From whom love’s stolen by a thief,
Let us take them to our hearts,
So their healing path can start.

Those who are fear friendship and love,
Who set themselves at too low worth,
Do they know how courage grows
Through acceptance of our woes.

Life is tragi-comedy.
Love may be the remedy.
Though if we give our hearts away
We shall have grief and pain to pay.

But if we lock our hearts up tight,
And keep all feeling out of sight,
We will wither like dead leaves,
Of our whole life we’ll be bereaved

  • I BOUGHT MY HUSBAND

I bought my husband in a Sale
I saw him hanging from the rail!
He’s like monkey from the zoo.
I patch him up with U.H.U.
I bought my husband bright blue clothes
So that wherever this man goes
People see him clear and bright.
    What a lovely sight!
I bought my husband a TV.
He likes to watch the BBC
He hates adverts and big Brother.
    The Weakest Link’s another.
I bought my husband books on Art.
This merry man is very smart.
He painted me a bunch of flowers.
I gaze at it for hours.
I bought my husband food and wine.
So that we can drink and dine.
    His conversation’s rich and rare.

Not every religion has to have St. Augustine’s attitude to sex. Why even in our culture marriages are celebrated in a church, everyone present knows what is going to happen that night, but that doesn’t prevent it being a religious ceremony.

  •  The Sun

The sun was lying on the ground
It was golden and quite round.
The cats were looking down to see
    What the consequence would be.
    Noone seemed to notice that
The sun was shining on their doormat.
Put it down and by and by
God will post it in the sky.

    NOW AND THEN

    He’s a mystic,you know.
    Does it pay well?
    Not in monetary terms.
I thought it might be like statistics!
Ah aha ah a Mystic statistic
    He is always losing himself.
    Then he finds himself elsewhere.
    We could organise a hunt.
    The Mystic statistic hunt.
    Can we hire some dogs?
No,I’ll get all the cats out.
    Brilliant,they are
    more psychic than dogs.
I used to get a feeling of eternity with my cat.
That was before he got run over?
And since,he communicates to me in notes.
Like, time to turn up the central heating.
    Where’s your sun hat?
    That’s me,you dolt.
How disappointing.Still, let me keep me illusions.
I’ll buy you an illusion box for Xmas.
We could get them all out and wash them.
    How many have you got?
They grow fewer by the minute.
We need some more.Like the illusion we are handsome fellows.
That women see beneath our crinkled skin ,the lover within.
    But you can’t buy illusions,
    What about delusions?
You can get those by starving and thinking malevolently.
    What about LSD
    LSD ..are you crackers?
    Well,crack cocaine,anybody?
Meditation takes so long.I’ve not got time for that.
I’ll drop a brick on your toe.
That will bring you into the timeless present.
In fact there is no present.
How do you make that out?
Stare at a leaf on a tree when there’s a breeze.
    Yes,it’s moving continuously.There’s no now.
    Now is then.
    It is now!
    It’s then, now!
    Now,then…!
But if there’s no now it can’t become then.
    So there’s no then either.
    No then
    How Zen.
So ,no now and no then.
Where do we go from here?
    .
There’s probably no “here” if there’s no “now”
So “here and now” is meaningless.
    Very satisfying.
    Reality is an illusion.
    There’s no time.
    We don’t exist then?
    We don’t exist now.
We are illusions produced by our brains.
How wondrous. Why am I so plump?
You are not plump because you are not.
    I am not.
    Neither am I.
    Am I I ?
    Time,gentleman ,please.
    That’s just a delusion.
    Humour him.
    You marry him.
I’m going home like a particle on the back of a wave.
Like a pebble flying on a sunbeam.
Like music flying from a flute.
    I have a wife,now and then.
When she’s not with other men.
    Alright,Einstein,your taxi is here.
Well we have to pretend we’re still “here”
    That there is an “Here

Monday apples

Monday's apples
The shape of apples gives me joy
When I the artist’s eye employ.
They turn from something commonplace
Into being filled with grace.
I look at them without intent,
And so a new image is sent.
They symbolise the fruits of life,
And, for a moment, silence strife

The logic and the love

bewildered cat
I once loved a doctor of logic
He was spiritual though he was agnostic.
I enjoyed our long walks
When we both could talk.
In fact I found his company magic.
He was very knowledgeable about birds.
And he knew of the histories of words..
He loved the tall trees
And flowers filled with bees.
His voice was the gentlest I’ve heard

A love poem with a rather long tale

When we  humans are united
In the warm embrace of flesh.
We see the world all glowing gold
As our two souls enmesh,
Soul and body are a whole,
That sing to us their song.
Please bring your dear body back,
To where it still belong.
We’ll sit beside the oval lake
Where coots and moorhens float.
I’ll hold your hand and gaze at you,
If you read what I wrote!
If you’ll teach me Serbo-Croat
Whilst you tell me your anecdote.
While I play with the tv remote
While I look down your little red throat.
What is the gist of my thought?
If you tell me how many mords I have wrote.
What terrible trouble you’ve brought.
Do you think my new suit is too smart?
Since God knows what muck you have wrote.
And your adopted white billy goat.
Because I like your new overcoat.
Because you are whom I have sought.
Where’s all that hash you bought?
If you’ll buy me a lovely new coat.
If you only knew what I thought.
If all other things come to naught.
If you’ll give me that salmon you caught.
As I’m feeling so overky wrought.
If you write me a tender love note.
I’m admiring the moth on your coat.
If you promise to carry my tote.
I saw a bumble bee fly into your coat.
A bee wants a sniff at your throat.
God knows why I wrote what I wrote.
I blame the frog in my throat.
Shall we hire a small rowing boat?
Did you manage to sow a wild oat?
My plans seem to have all come to naught.
I am that lady you’ve caught.
What ethics and rules were you taught.
We could make love in this old rowing boat.
Would you like a small slice of cheese tart?
Wherever I look, there you aren’t!
I’m willing to try a la carte
Your gaze pierces me through like a dart.
Do you think we will do what we ought?
I feel like more toy dynamite.
I’m going off to fly my own kite.
We can make love but please do not bite.
I love to sit in this brilliant sunlight.
You have such a loving heart
You have such great loving art.
You love all post modern art.
Do you know who I aren’t?
Let’s all grow up and take part.
I’d love my own horse and cart
In my Play I’ll give you the best part.
I think this is heavenly art.
Oh,I just woke up with a start……………
I’d love to bake you a tart.
You can’t make a pint into a quart.
I’ll let you have the best part.
An owl wants to borrow your coat,
Did you pay for the work on your moat.
Can you teach me to read what I wrote?
Who wrote me the loveliest note ?
Woz you just an horny old goat.
I like cuisine if it’s haute.
I think my pants are too tight.
I love this silver moon light.
Sitting with the Lords by the moat.
Sculptures and prints of my goat.
You tell me the story of nought.
I’m admiring your brazen bold heart.
Brass comes in useful for art.
I regret when we do have to part.
My lips are beginning to smart.
Is this or isn’t it art?
Two answers are allowed ou your part,

Musing on my muse

Poetry writing ‘s a great pleasure
The benefits are without measure.
I found a new perspective here,
More of love and less of fear
If I wait in reverie
My muse will sometimes contact me.
If I listen to her songs
I find out where my heart belongs.#
If i’m too full up with my own self,
She will not give me of her  wealth.
I must be empty to receive.
The insights which she wants to give.
But I am happy to be low,[? !]
The place  the snails and slugs all know.
I hold my hands to make a cup.
And so she comes and fills them up.
In the earth life starts and ends. And to earth we all descend.
We shall become the food for worms,
As in all life we take our turns.

I sat in the art gallery

arboretum2019-6

Watching Plato shining torches into blackness,
Wandering through the galleries,
Sepia paintings of pines,
Pain came to the emptiness once my heart,
I sat picturing screaming Popes and babies.
Eastward, looking for fresh instruction,
My mind unpleated, like a pair of curtains
~Hung out to dry in equinoxal gales.
The bells of Satan’s cell phone
Rang again,startling in this silence.
“You had your smear done yet?”
“It’s me,hinny”
“I’m having coffee here in “Costa’s.”
Then I awoke,a man appeared.
How apposite,I need you,Ludwig!
I can’t fly my kite.

In the Science Museum, the mirror cracked
And from it stars flew out,
Adorning cars and bicycles and buses.
The building gently fell into its own reflection.
People flew out like gasping rockets,
Illuminating the blankness,
Calling “Is today the day?.”

Metaphors be with you

Sky walker, copying and stealing verse, and other ideas

Question: What did the poet say to Luke
Skywalker?
Answer: “Metaphors be with you.”
Metaphor.. my meat and drink.
Although I’m known for quaffing ink.
I need to play with words on line.
But writing proper poems takes time.
And I have no time to waste,
so I write by copy and paste.
A line from Donne a line from Blake,
George Herbert for goodness sake!
A bit of Shakespeare tossed and turned,
My poetry salads don’t yet earn.
Into the breach we’ll go dear friends
The Waste Land never seems to end.
To be or not to BBC ?
Shall we always disagree?
Chaucer I have not yet read.
Is it good when one’s in bed?
Look,stranger,on this island now,
it’s illegal to milk my cow.
And ,also, we do not roast geese.
Even when we have a feast.
Turning and turning in the gyre,
I think that church has got two spires.
The lake at Innisfree’s still there.
Is that where the Queen said prayers?
Who’d have thunk that Hughes and Plath
Never signed an autograph.
I like her poem about a mirror.
Some of them are full of horror.
Lay your sleeping head, my love,
On a brick or turtle dove.
I’m too tired to kiss you now,
I’ll massage your back with this pillow.
The bed’s too small for all of us
I suggest you try the bath.
If you put a duvet in
I believe i saw your twin
When did Herriot plough the fields?
Was Dover Beach where my skin peeled?
I forgot to put my sunscreen on,
Off they all go one by one.

Rrobert Louis Stevenson :a well known quote modernised to be appropriate for now

That person is a success who lived well, laughed often and loved much; Who has gained the respect of intelligent people and the love of children;
Who has filled thei rniche and accomplished their task;
Who leave the world better than they found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or rescued soul;
Who never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it;

Who looked for the best in others and gave the best they had.”

This is fascinating.a nurse who had fear and sleep problems when in the USA but went to Canada and was fine……………because of their healthcare system which is rather like the NHS.she didn’t know that it was fear about Healthcare ans i nsurance which was keeping her in such anxiety
