Absquatulate, the limericks

Absquatulate is a new word to me.

It’s Latin like,esse= to be

Non cogitate sum

The cat bit my thumb….

Then absconded to new territory.

Perambulators are essential  today

For  picking  up babes from their play.

They should have three wheelers

In  second hand   dealers,

Or maybe just look on e bay

Sans humor

He absquatulated  to a foreign country and ended up  on a mountain where God did not give him the ten commandments despite his demands. That’s the thing about God.He is very obstinate I find.He is the opposite of a computer. He is in no need of updates, though we are.Is death an update?

He once absconded from Maidstone Jail  because he wanted to perambulate down the King’s Road. However the police caught him and he is onstage now in Gone with the Wind in Reading Jail

I did not absquatulate  from Washington because I didn’t know the word.Besides I’ve never even been there.I can’t prove it logically so take my word and memorize it immediately.

Always dress politely

Speak in a good design.

Listen with  both eyes wide open.

Never take off your hat in bed especially when married.

Change your habits once a day.

Charge the linen for its own laundry.

Boil an egg in the toaster and toast the bread by sunlight.

Always wear a watch in the shower.

Don’t change sex twice.

Make up your mind creatively.

Treat people with tact unless you are a doctor. Then use force.

Never give advice verbally.

Learn how to wink

Drink tea from the cat’s bowl  if possible.

Let the cat sleep with your partner now and then.

Try not to wound other people.. if you didn’t know there are any then seek advice from yourself now.

I am not you.

I wear my heart displayed upon my face.

I wear my heart displayed upon my face.
Attentive readers find their meaning there..
Where feelings thought too deep to be embraced
Can shine demurely where they do not scare.

As Freud observed we're never quite disguised
Betrayal is our body's real motif.
The message comes conspicuous from the eyes.
Bright sparkles or your tears of blackest grief.

The answer to a question seemly leaps
So Yes or No is visibly revealed.
The blush that spreads so fast across the cheeks
Both bold and shy unable to conceal.

Your face tells me you lied when Love you cried.
Depart from me,for liars I can't abide.

.

Even my cold blood.

When of the world of doctors,I am sick.
When diagnosis is not any aid
When from the choices given, I cannot pick
Although I feel my deepest debts were paid.

Then off from thinking I must take my mind
To gaze upon the beauty of the woods
And feel the sun not fiery, even kind
It warms and heartens even my cold blood.

The trees are calm for they have grown deep roots
Though storms may strike their trunks and branches too
breaking off new tender green tipped shoots
They sway and take it without much to do.

Strength needs flexibility and give;
With no such, the brittle shall not live.

Words rise up

Words rise up like geese at dawn,
When ,in  pale sun, new day is born.
The words approach,  and pause in line;

The choice I make is mine.

Words  spelled here by sense and sound,
In clause and sentence weave around.
Which eager  words shall I now use

And which  shall I refuse?

The fire  lights up inside my heart,
And now my writing hand can start
I sit down at my desk and say
This is the way I spend my day
With words  I dance and play.

Geese fly by

 It’s Autumn weather, geese fly by;
Autumn rust,red,gold,so gay;

Drystone walls edging fields,

Apples gathered,holly berries

Flash so brightly

Look like flowers

Sun shines sideways,shadows long

Of trees appear,I dwell among,

Woods of gentle beeches sing

Swaying with the sideward wind.

See their roots, all intertwined.

Feel their geometry in the mind.

Look up now into the sky,

See the V formation high.

Geese fly home at end of day.

My heart is moved by patterned dance

In this peace and great silence

My mind widens like the sky

And in this moment I would die,

So I would stay with this still vision

Of geese set out on autumn mission.

Snails in rain pools slither near

My feet upon the terrace here

And look,upon their whorled backs

All the sense of life is packed.
 Yet so easily Life’s destroyed,

When blind foot steps into the void

In the dark

Fifty more maths classes banned from TV

I chose to study mathematics at A level because I has no imagination and thought complex numbers were men with   problems. And they were just an invention and did not  really exist like ellipses and infinity do.Then I made a fatal error by passing the exams. Thus it was I entered into a place of learning.I was severely disappointed as none of the staff seemed to be yearning for  the mystical experience of discovering a new mathematical truth but were only interested in proving ones made by others.Proof had to be logical….. but logic was never defined. Is that logical?

Thus it happened that after an extremely hard algebraic number  of years I turned a corner and realised it was symbols not signs I was looking for.Symbolic Logic has nothing to do with symbols in that sense. It’s not as interesting as Chess which I only played once.Playing Chess ruined my marriage, as my husband informed me after 44 years that my winning our only match  infuriated him to the nth degree. My suggestion that we get divorced and split  our money was hampered by him dying the following week.He also informed me I was  too intelligent and spoke too fast.Too fast for what?On the whole I find it’s better not to speak to a boyfriend  for as long as possible,.Men like mystery. So they claim.

I got married because I am afraid of upsetting a man but then I ended up doing that.I tried very hard but as I said I have no imagination and no small talk so maybe being a sheep farmer might have been wiser. My husband said he never wanted to see me again and then asked me to wash 7 pairs of pyjamas and  his 4 cashmere sweaters because “they smelled funny” It was no  joke as well as cooking him several meals and writing 14 sonnets changing the sheets and telling him  humorous stories in the middle of the night.I suppose in the dark he couldn’t see me,I never thought of that before! A pity I ever bought “A survey of modern algebra” by Birkhoff and McLane.I didn’t buy it,it was a prize!!

Inchoate but I never did know it

PICT0003f

If your  vocabulary includes   words like “inchoate”

You’re well spoken,though you don’t know  it.

For it’s  neither Hebrew  nor Greek,

It’s Latin you speak.

That’s alright for us proles and  the poets.

Though Hebrew  is older I think

As are nonverbal cues such as winks.

Do baboons sigh and grumble

As one start to mumble:

I think your new fur should be pink.

Aramaic is hardly spoken today…

So where did it vanish away?

Imagine if our tongue

Was silent thus  half wrong.

Aramaic ‘s  still useful for prayer.

Definition of inchoate in English

inchoate

Line breaks: in¦cho|ate

Pronunciation: /ɪnˈkəʊeɪt/

/ˈɪnkəʊeɪt/ /ɪnˈkəʊət/

adverb

origin Mid 16th century: from Latin inchoatus, past participle of inchoare, variant of incohare ‘begin’.

Definition of inchoate in:

When life’s too hard

 6396444_a6db05029f_m

When true love’s gone and doom hangs over head

When life runs like a river to the sea

Then shall I take new lovers to my bed,

And with their carnal touch consoled be?

When my love lies,so breaks my tender heart.

When life seems grey and rocks bestrew my path.

Then, shall I my life of evil start,

And on the world shall I bestow my wrath?

When true love lies and wrecks all loyalty.

When puzzlement makes all my world seem mad.

Then I shall upend causality

And let myself do deeds which make all glad.

For I have love’s sweet child inside my soul

And I shall tend her till at last she’s whole

The sad tree

A failure in the placement of the tree;
Too small are roots which spread into the soil.
At first so perfect, later one can see
Its strength unable full life to uncoil.

A hidden shame for partly sensed deep lacks
A drawing back when growth was better sense
A fear of unknown dangers in soil black
Humiliation makes a  hidden fence.

Perhaps this tree’s unsuited to our climes.
Seed moved far away from parents home.
Yet once it starts to grow there is no time
Unless it’s quickly moved from  English loam

For lacking its best soil ,unrooted gifts
Are not developed, and in struggle twist.

Literary related jovial notions

Apples with blue

The  new house had such  short stories it looked like a  bungalow for  a family  of demons  who had no swine.

My house is rather novel. It has no gravity at all.It suits my sins of humor as I float into the library for an evening browse

The total volume of my husband’s library would be about ten suitcases plus an Oxford Dictionary.Tell God

I booked a cleaner for speeding in the kitchen. She said Cordon my English, dear.I never knew you were the sixth woman.

I do love a chocolate villanelle for  a  dessert. What did I say? Well you spell it,then.

The life of our  current prime minister is of no literary value to poets and that speaks half a volume.

She had no magazines until he brought out his gun. It even had a bulletin.

She likes  romantic novels except they only have one theme. Why don’t they read Euclid before bed. I did and see the effect or should I say ,no affect?

I am reading a critical study of Sylvia Plath’s writing… she did it by hand!So did her husband.that tells a story.Short, of course. They spilled the ink. They had no Ariel then you see.Since then it’s made his fortune…

He just keeps rewriting his narratives and so should we all.Never confess unless you get paid.

Beware of expensive phone numbers

Beware of clothes catalogues asking you for feedback.I bought an item then was asked to give Humor: Discover the Power of Humor in the Universal Virtues | Virtue.netfeedback on the  it via  the phone.Fortunately I hung up after 5 minutes waiting.I say fortunately because looking at my phone bill I see it was expensive. You don’t get charged by Amazon for giving feedback!

Some charities with helplines also charge a high rate which may seem fair if you are getting free advice but it is not always made clear. Now you know why the staff are so chatty! But at least this is for a good cause.

As for questions people ask on Amazon.I have a tiny windows laptop 10 inch screen and hence rarely used.I got a question from someone asking if one could use Word on it.If they are going to use Word a 10inch screen is hardly suitable…I suppose they may have Word  on a bigger one….

Strange facts

Almost all children learn to talk without formal lessons yet it takes several years for them to learn to read and write in school, not to mention the corporal punishment many suffered.

As for arithmetic, not many men have trouble laying a bet nor children knowing how many sweets can be bought for 20 pence…Wall and shrub

Humour helps

 New cats today
Whatever is wrong with us,humour helps. It helps physical illness, tension, depression, stress. It helps people to forgive each other  and it helps our minds to function better,There are lots of books with collections of humour from different  sources, different people and different cultures even religions. You can also get good sources from the internet if you want to save money.

Then, think about games we played as children. They were often funny although children can be cruel. Why not make up some jokes yourself as a kind of game. That can be more benficial than just reading them.Writing also helps when we are strained. There are websites where you can keep a private diary, like Penzu, if you prefer writing online. On Penzu you can share too if you wish.

Scientific humour

When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity.

Pi or Pie.Mary ponders..

Dotty cats 2

Mary was getting dressed on a wet October morning. The cycling  shorts she had never worn alone  made a warm extra layer under her green cotton trousers. On top she wore a red tunic and also  some green plastic earrings.

She saw Annie who had just rung the  door bell

My goodness,Mary, you look different.Where on earth did you get those earrings? she said enviously

I made them, myself out of the  littlrr tops of those plastic milk containers from the supermarket.

I say, you’re not that poor are you?Anne asked her  kindly

It’s not what is real,it’s how you feel,Mary replied poetically as she sometimes enjoyed a bit of fun and teasing  a friend gently.

Cats on the hillNo,said Annie it’s It’s not what you feel,it’s what is real.

And how do we know what is real?Mary asked her with deep curiosity her eyes glowing in a deep shade of teal blue.

Well,I know you had a reasonably  good job so you must have more than just  your state pension. You may be giving more than a tithe to Charity. Is that wise?

No,Mary cried,but I want to…I like to do it.

Oh,dear,Annie said.By the way you will need a coat,it’s much colder.I hope you’ve not given all your coats to Oxfam like Stan once did with his shoes.

Thanks,Mary smiled with her voice.I still have twenty two  coats of all colours,A bit like Joseph in the Bible.

At the bus stop Mary met  Tom who lived round the corner in a semi detached villa with a an extension, conservatory  and downstairs shower room.He had fallen over again and bruised his face but still looked quite  handsome with his dark hair and Irish eyes.

Maybe you need to pick up your feet more,Mary whispered to him .What a strange expression that is,.I wonder who invented it.It’s amazing how wise our ancestors were. They invented writing and cooking and philosophy. We are going backwards.

Thus Mary passed her day, talking to friends and musing on the meaning of words and sentences. and making  herself jewellery from mundane objects she noticed on her walks. Not to mention cleaning the loo and  putting all her old Xmas cards into bags for recycling.

Since from the natural numbers 1,2,3,4,…… we can get to  the strange transcendental  numbers pi and e and the fact that there are different orders of infinity  does that prove God exists, she asked Tom  plaintively.Well, not prove, but suggest.

I don’t know what you are on about, honey,he responded.Nobody ever saw pi in a burning bush although I have seen pies burn in a halogen oven more than twice

That is a totally different order of reality, she  told him sweetly.

Wow,Mary, many men don’t like  extremely clever women you know.

Which men are those ? she asked wonderingly, as her peaches and cream complexion glowed with health.

I suppose  I don’t mind myself,he said,.it’s  possibly  because men need to feel superior otherwise they lose their confidence. and then they are in big troubleBut what about women’s confidence Tom reflected further.

Maybe women don’t need  confidence  so desperately much,Mary sighed. They looked at each other and smiled. The sun came out and the trees were glowing in red and gold as the bus came down the hill  looking like some  chariot from a myth as the sun hit the windows at an obtuse angle.

Pronounce it the Greek way:Ouranos, the Greek god of the sky

Words With Confusing Pronunciations

#6: Uranus

Pronunciation:

\ˈyu̇r-ə-nəs, yu-ˈrā-\

Definition:

: the planet that is seventh in order from the sun

About the Word:

No matter which of the two standard pronunciations you choose, someone may snicker.

The planet was named for Ouranos, the Greek god of the sky and father of the Titans. The Greek take on Ouranos sounds more like “oo-rah-NOHSS” than either of the two English pronunciations.

Autumn is here

The doctor was oppressed by my blood

He read it whenever he could

But he tried tea leaves instead

As he ate some fried bread.

And his fate is foretold well and good.

Fortune may favor the brave

And neglect those who  never make waves.

But   in the middle we hope

To have just enough scope

For the knowledge our hearts and souls crave.

Autumn is an ambiguous time.

Her darkness is hard on the mind.

But the red leaves  in sunshine

Transform  us enough times.

We give thanks for the stunning designs.
