Preoccupation is a dangerous thing

We see not what is there but what we bring.

Put aside your thoughts and busy care,

When you are so occupied you are not here

Being here is living with our friends

Not wandering lonely down the streets’ dead ends

Do not let your worries make you blind

Do not let them make you too unkind

The weak will hurt the vulnerable nearby

Don’t let that beam live too long in your eye

    1. It’s really surprising to find this out but in a way it’s also obvious that if you’re thinking about something that’s struggling you you can’t really see what’s going on around I wonder if we should have some lessons on this in school
      Because it is not hard to understand but it might be hard to realize when you are preoccupied for example you must have just put a pair of red shoes and you might be thinking about them rather than what’s in front of you!!

      1. Distractions will always get in the way of thinking….or that’s definitely the case for me. I am able to write/paint with music in the background…..

      2. After I fell and hit my back my handwrite it became very bad so I could hardly sign a check
        Not that that’s a very frequent experience nowadays but with some practice I’ve now managed to get almost back to normal. But basically we don’t need it and that’s why we’re losing the facility.
        I like writing on one side of a piece of paper and then I held it up to the light and look at it from the underneath and see the shapes of the letters etc it intrigues me just as patterns not the actual meaning of the words.

      3. Thank you Katherine – I like your idea about writing on one side of the paper and then observing the shapes….that’s interesting. I have had a good weekend and am now preparing for three American friends to arrive in Hampton on Thursday… They will be staying at a local B & B -which is good. 🙂

      4. Oh I hope you have a really good time with your friends. It really is better if people are not actually staying with you because we need to be able to relax sometimes otherwise it gets a bit overpowering.
        Yes it’s interesting to look at writing differently from just reading it I think but I also liked when we got letters or cards so look at the handwriting and try to guess the age of the person or other qualities that they had or I might even recognise it which was very nice and so with emails we do miss that. But it’s so useful to be able to use modern technology

      6. Thank you Katherine. You are so right about people saying somewhere else. Plus my flat couldn’t possible accommodate them and all the artwork:). They will arrive in a couple of hours….and I am excitedX
