  1. You can actually find out a lot more about an e-mail than your link implies, by looking at the ‘header’ information.

    In ‘Windows Mail’, for example, right-click on the e-mail you wish to examine and then choose ‘Properties’ from the drop-down menu. (many other e-mail programs are similar).

    This shows the ‘header’, which contains a record of how the e-mail got from the originator to you, with the oldest informatioh at the bottom. So, if you start reading from the bottom, you can follow the route, starting from the sender. If this route starts from an unexpected part of the world, in the context of the message, your suspicions should be aroused. A genuine message from your bank is unlikely to have originated in Nigeria, for example.
