Preventative War

“I think every big town should contain artificial waterfalls that people could descend in very fragile canoes, and they should contain bathing pools full of mechanical sharks. Any person found advocating a preventive war should be condemned to two hours a day with these ingenious monsters.”

The musician of disordered sound, the poet of decomposed language, the painter and sculptor of the fragmented visual and tactile world: they all portray the break up of the self and, through the rearrangement and reassemble of the fragments, try to create new structures that possess wholeness, perfection, new meaning.

Things people probably don’t know about University and Teachers

89f921ca5209adb8c312ce2dbbbdb417--cool-tents-sunday-night

1,Many people who teach are postgraduate students being paid very little. They may account for half of your tutors in some universities. They may be good at teaching  but they are not experienced nor given any training or help; the  full time staff  have to  produce  a book a year, or thereabouts  to keep their jobs. That means a lot of rubbish is published and research is judged by the number of citations not by academic evaluation as that is expensive and time consuming
I imagine doctors are unable to read all the new research coming out and maybe a lot is useless anyway
2.Some former polytechnics hired at high wages people with a good research record and then paid part-time staff  on lowe wages to do the actual teaching…. and keep them hanging on till October not knowing if they will be hired again or for  how many hours
So having someone famous in the Department does not mean you will ever see them or hear them
3 My niece had 3 hours a week teaching in her final year  of an English Literature degree at a well known University. And she was paying full fees and now has a huge debt
Is three hours a week sufficient for  full time students.Yes, they have to read but given all the mental health problems we hear about they could be very lonely and lose motivation
4 Is it true they expanded universities to reduce the dole queue? Probably…..

Why no  love for Jesus’ human face?

Punctured by the uselessness of love
Shrunken by the grief that comes again
My heart has shrivelled.has no love to give

Worn out by the world and all its strife
Destroyed by visions  of such proud display
Punctured by the uselessness of love

What did a fig tree do to lose its life?
What the ransom Jesus wished it pay?
My heart has shrivelled  underneath  his knife

Down below or sky high thus above
Nothing seems worthwhile nor even gay
Dragged down by the uselessness of love

If there is a ransom, who’ll pay half?
Shall I die while I feel this disgrace?
My heart has shrivelled and destroyed my life

Why do refugees crawl,die displaced?
Why no  love for Jesus’ human face?
Tortured by the uselessness of strife
My heart blew up and  killed me like a knife

Good night

I lost my  pass for travelling on the bus
I kept it with my keys and by my purse
So now it’s fastened on a chain  with clip
I look for lobster fasteners and  a whip
I need a shade of grey for my  red eyes
And a list of ways I can tell lies
My purse is heavy with the  evidence
The goods and booklets I  have so well spent
My comb is clean for it is never used
I use the toothbrush mostly on my shoes
I use the GNT for frightening ghosts
Pain is killed by uttering rude long words
I cannot write them down as  it is sin
To draw my readers  into hell’s own twin
And now I feel  my time to dream  has come
Goodnight,I say, to each and every one

The landscape loved

I  first found  reverie  through  picture books
Safe in bed, and safe from mother’s looks
Then I used to gaze at magazines-
Advice on what to wear and how to seem.
Catalogues are free and I used them
To look at dresses sweet or handsome men.
Into a blissful dream of eyes  that gleam
I’d  be made one with all that is and seems
No vigilancy needed in my bed
Surrounded by the books I’ve  often read
I read my favourites  till they are absorbed
Their images all mingle till  they mate
To be transformed to   metaphors at night.
Before the rising sun brings its great light
Then my sleep is reverie indeed
I see the landscape s loved  once more unfreeze

Ode to the lock on the door

Oh,Yale lock on my  blue front door
Your ingenuity I adore.
You keep the thief from coming in
To steal the garbage from my bin.
To steal my husband’s radio
And other bits , I can’t say more.
I know we can have bolts as well.
We had a Chubb ,I can now tell.
And a giant front doorbell.
It played a dozen  different tunes
To frighten off that crescent moon.
So in my handbag I have keys
Asthma sprays for when I wheeze
GNT for heart attacks
And hankies in those dainty packs
Then , of course, I have my purse
Mobile phones which often curse.
I have lipstick, suncream,balm
A comb and toothpick  to add charm
So when I lock the big front door
I bow to Yale ,my key’s own whore.

Together alone

We were alone together

In this sitting room.

I would draw on my laptop,

While he had his camera on zoom.

We were alone together

Now I’m alone alone.

I am studying poetry

Because he’s not on the phone.

We were alone together

As I sat by his bed.

He still didn’t speak but then he winked

As I laid my hand on his head.

I wish I could be with you

Together and not alone

I wish I could be with you

And you were not cold as stone.

On our hill, inferno, smoke and flames

Winter Hill’s  like hell with smoke and flames
People drive  to  view the garish glow
We need entertainment, it’s  sublime

What must we look forward to next time?
We are  kept well lulled by whiring shows
Winter Hill’s  like hell with smoke and flame

As we watch, we wonder who’s to blame
Who has ventured where noone should go
To get us entertainment, is it crime?

Scotchman’s Stump  where murder was on time~
I stood alone  there when I was down low
Winter Hill’s  like hell with smoke and flame

One  afternoon, we walked past that old Barn
A stile led to a meadow years ago
To give us Sunday outings was no crime

Now I  feel destruction like a blow
Rivington and Winter Hill,I know
On our hill, inferno, smoke and flames
Is it God or man that we should blame?

We miss the hand that held us

The loss  of those beloved
Can  we live without them
Where are you,love?
What are your intentions?

As on we go
We miss the hand that held us
Where are  you, love?
Where are your dear shoulders?

Down through the years
We seek and never find them
Where are you, love
Where are your inventions

On  old photographs
You move my heart to weeping
Where are you, love?
Soon I too shall be sleeping

Words that we made
Now are never spoken
Images will fade
But my heart is always open,

Come back, my love
I can’t live without you
With the white dove
I’d like  to find worlds novel

Where are you,love
Where are all the lost ones?
Where are you, love,
The children and the last ones?

Last  ones shall be first
The wealthy  all rejected
Loved ones are not  cursed
Nor to  ills subjected

Come back,dear  love
Come back,sweet love
As the white dove
Flies still above
Oh, where are you, my love?

If not ,try eating  a can of baked beans … and stay at home!

Some tanks for w.c.s were called Phoenix
But where is the eternal flame going to burn?

My friend was very angry:I have to clean 5 toilets every day
So why did they buy that house with 2 ensuites, a cloakroom, bathroom and a privy in the garden?
Do you need to clean a privy? How?

My garden table is black.Yet there is no smoke here.Where  does dirt come from?
How should I clean the table?
Don’t mention brillo pads ever again

I washed up today and broke 3 mugs.I should have taken a shot

I have never used a gun despite any sounds you may have heard/.

I am goingto Court next week for Trial and Horror. Then Sentencing. Can they still hang me? I wonder if beheading is faster… and as death usually comes on gradually, can the soul leave the body fast enough? I think it is not our prerogative to end lives at will.

When my husband was dying ,his nose was cold like ice.I wonder why it was not room temperature? He had a big nose so I wondered if  he was partly descended from the Jews of York plus a bit of Viking. His eyes were piercing like knives, but only when he wanted them to be.

If you married a clock you could wind  it up.Hello, God

If you married a radio you could get a new battery

If you marry a human,tough.

Digital art when you have no idea what it is

???????????????????

A first I  drew with Microsoft Paint Program.I did cats, apples and abstracts

I found Microsoft Paint by accident.I had not heard of, knew nothing  such things.I spent about a year and a half playing with it  especially when I had a few months of illness.I  made some abstracts and then a great many cat pictures. It made me realize it o.k to simplify.to do so;you have no choice with Paint And that what I really like drawing is two objects in relation like two cats or apples.I tried three cats as well.It has that advantage… you discover what you personally like to draw.Ideally I’d prefer watercolor or pastels but I had no class I could manage then,

??????????

What will happen?

Naive art!

This is the family of three… a child has arrived

Cat is cross

Moving on from Paint,I discovered Artweaver and Paint.Net both free.I experimented and found for transforming a photo  it’s good to use  photographss with  strong shapes and pattern  like trees, cracks in the pavement, gates, fencing, certain buildings, climbing shrubs  on a wall…..natural patterns

bus stop 6A tree trunk

Cracks in the pavement 3

Cracks in our pavement down the  end of the  street

Cracks in the pavement

Cracks in the pavement. It looks better in color

Here I used Paint to add birdlike shapes to the  previous image

The top image below is from a photo of a mosquito  bite on my thigh after I scratched it so there was a little blood

another insect bite 3

What not to use.. don’t use photos with a large area in one color…even if it looks ok as a photograph

Apple tree and sunshineThe light here is a problem for using this in digital art… but it’s intriguing as it is

I found ignorance quite helpful in a way as I had no expectations…..which is very important  in many areas of life

No meaning, nothing sacred, never Love.

For someone non-existent  God has power
To wreck the world he learns from every  hour.
He is not here or there or where at all
And yet we do have evidence of Fall.

Why  must men be angry as they boast,
They can prove there is no Holy Ghost?
No benediction, blessing, nothing good
No meaning, nothing sacred, never Love.

For who is zero,  what’s in the empty set?
God  seems ever harder to forget
Men argue with red cheeks and suffer strokes
While God sits back, enjoys an evening smoke.

While Nothing shall remain and  nausea  sighs
Let’s enjoy the  madness and the lies.

Psalms 131

Psalms Chapter 131 תְּהִלִּים

א  שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת, לְדָוִד:
יְהוָה, לֹא-גָבַהּ לִבִּי–    וְלֹא-רָמוּ עֵינַי;
וְלֹא-הִלַּכְתִּי,    בִּגְדֹלוֹת וּבְנִפְלָאוֹת מִמֶּנִּי.
1 A Song of Ascents; of David. {N}
LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; {N}
neither do I exercise myself in things too great, or in things too wonderful for me.
2 Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; {N}
like a weaned child with his mother; my soul is with me like a weaned child.
ג  יַחֵל יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֶל-יְהוָה–    מֵעַתָּה, וְעַד-עוֹלָם. 3 O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and for ever. {P}

Who do you hate?

Extra 1.jpg.gallery
Manchester Evening News

My husband hated only 2 people. One was Iain Paisley whose voice we heard so often during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.I can see why many people could hate him.The second person  was not me.I think it was Mervyn Stockwood  who I believe was the Head of the Methodist Church. My husband was raised as a Methodist so  that may explain it.
I  only hate one person but nobody here will know them and it is private
However if you  want to pick someone, pick someone who lives a  long way off, that you never meet and never have any contact with. Then hate away!

Talking and blood pressure

Talking and Blood Pressure

““I’ve done amazing experiments with Holocaust survivors, and the situation is the same. I would ask them to think for about five minutes about the worst things that happened in the camps. There is no change in blood pressure. I then asked them to tell me what they were thinking about. Boom. Their pressure would double.””

t what they want to say next.”

“You also may know many people, who perhaps never felt heard in their young lives, and who never stop talking when they got older. They become “chatterboxes!” Whenever I encountered hypertensive talkers in my practice I would always insist on verbal restraint. To me, “chatterbox-related hypertension” was a real entity.

Public speaking has been studied as a form of stress that can cause blood pressure to rise. We know that when you talk and are stressed, you instantly constrict your peripheral blood supply. A healthy heart pumping out a lot of blood against a constricted periphery can create huge pressure surges that go right up into the coronary arteries and could even damage the sensitive endothelial lining of arteries. This is an unheralded mechanism that can contribute to arterial disease.

The Sinatra Solution: Become a Better Listener

As a youngster I used to stutter. The biggest challenge, or fear, for me was talking in any kind of a public setting, such as school. Yet I obviously grew out of the stuttering and the fear. Nowadays when I speak to audiences, sometimes as big as 2-3,000 people, I am fearless. The words flow. I think that comes from speaking from the heart. If we just speak from our hearts, we are speaking for what is for us the truth. Our hearts and bodies are in sync.

The notion of speaking in public, whether in front of audiences or friends, is stressful only to the degree that you feel you can communicate. If you speak the truth, and you feel heard, it is not that stressful, and so less blood pressure-altering.

If you do have high blood pressure, think about what I just said. Try to become a better listener.

How do I learn to write poems?

https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-learn-to-write-poems-1

“Re the first thing: according to the poetry teachers I know, it is very common for young people to want to write poetry, but not to read it. Let’s just think about how strange that is. If you were a musician, would you say you just want to play music, and that you don’t want to listen to it? What kind of musician doesn’t want to listen to music?”

Wildlife loss on Saddleworth Moor

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/wildlife-experts-fear-could-take-14835997

“The bleakness of Saddleworth Moor camouflages a richness of flora and fauna.

Its bogs and 9000-years-old peatland with fast-flowing streams and valleys sustains many plants and animals which will have perished as the fire swept across 2000 acres.

Wildlife experts believe the recovery could take years.

The timing of the blaze is catastrophic as fledglings emerge from nests in early summer.

Director of Conservation at the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside Tim Mitcham said: “The heat generated by the fires is devastating to the fragile upland moorland.

“Only the most mobile of animals escape and of course we are in peak breeding period for many – from curlew to ant.

“These animals are on the moors because they like the conditions they find there and ultimately depend upon the plants, many species depend upon specialist moorland plants like cotton-grass and heather.”

He  gazed at me and tried to speak some words

Three days before the end,he lay quite still
Could barely speak nor breathe not eat nor smile
I sat alone and swollen was my heart
I knew by  inward feelings, soon  we ‘d part

At home were waiting  frozen ready meals
Quite suitable to my own freezing feel
He  gazed at me and tried to speak some words
“How will you manage, sweet”, I barely heard.

The grief I felt ignored by day time nurse
And from the Sister, came demonic curse.
Exercised in Re Hab  until dead
And even after that, cruel words they said

Resuscitated,  left in peace in bed.
He lasted 19 hours .The verdict: “Dead.”

Bedouins?

https://www.britannica.com/topic/Bedouin

“In addition to the “noble” tribes who trace their ancestry to either Qaysi (northern Arabian) or Yamani (southern Arabian) origin, traditional Bedouin society comprises scattered “ancestor-less” groups who shelter under the protection of the large noble tribes and make a living by serving them as blacksmiths, tinkers, artisans, entertainers, and other workers.”

The spaces once held sacred are destroyed
Like Salisbury plain where sheep could safely graze
Now for soldiers use and practice Wars

The Bedouin who inhabit deserts cry
The Negev is no longer a free space
The places for creation are destroyed

Before the birth of Christ, they wandered by
Their little tents and camels no disgrace
Deserts are for practising new Wars

To shepherds and their flocks we say,Good bye.
The land is used for shooting, so debased
The places for creation are destroyed

The Lamb of God is fined and unemployed
Search for peace, be treated with distaste
Deserts are for practising new Wars

Of the Spirit, is there any trace
As the Lord God turns away his Face?
The spaces once held sacred are destroyed
Now for soldiers use and Final War.

The Bedouins, refugees from other times

The Bedouins, refugees from other times
The places were they live are still the same
But other people founded States and took
The deserts where they roamed ,ancestral nooks.

Ther little tents of black on the hillsides
Have not changed from Mediaeval times
But now they are like flies, unwanted guests
Who will know the tremor in their breasts?

Cruel is the heart of humankind,
The Commandments spat on daily by men blind.
The Bedouins of our spirit need to be
Allowed their space, allowed their deserts free

Nomads of the desert[Jesus Christ,
Nomad of the darkness in our minds

Bedouins under further attack

“Now, however, the brakes may be off. With the Trump administration providing diplomatic cover, right-wing ministers in Israel pressing to exploit that while it lasts and international support for the Palestinians focused for the moment on Gaza, a new ruling by a settler-majority panel of Israel’s Supreme Court appears to have freed the government to proceed with the removal of entire Bedouin communities on the West Bank. Advocates of the Bedouins say this would be a war crime: the forced transfer of a population under the protection of the military occupation.

“Everyone’s asking me, ‘What are you going to do, Bedouin?’” said Eid Abu Khamis, 51, Khan al-Ahmar’s leader. “I don’t have an F-16 or an F-15. I’m asking the international community: Where are the laws?”

Khan al-Ahmar is a dusty dot on the map, tucked behind a highway dividing two bustling Israeli settlements: Maale Adumim, so well-established as a suburb of Jerusalem that even leftists concede it would need to be carved out of a future Palestinian state; and a fast-growing offshoot, Kfar Adumim.

Bedouins have made the place their year-round home since at least the 1970s, though some, like Mr. Abu Khamis, say they were born there even earlier. Their tribe, the Jahalin, had wandered the Negev desert until being expelled by Israel after its establishment in 1948. When they arrived here in what was the uninhabited West Bank, the area was under Jordan’s control.

I
they were born there even earlier.CreditCorinna Kern for The New York Times
With Israel’s victory in the Six-Day War in 1967, the army took over, restricted the herders’ movements and expropriated the area as state land — without yet evicting the Bedouins. In the 1970s, the developers of Maale Adumim called for evacuating the Bedouins to build Jewish housing to the east and “cut off the Arab settlement continuity between Judea and Samaria,” the terms Israelis use to refer to the northern and southern halves of the West Bank.”

I’ll never leave you,but I will,no doubt, grieve you and deceive you, misperceive you.

Until the very end of time I’ll be loving you.
Until the end of all my rhymes,I’ll be writing you.
Until the day I die,I’ll be unintentionally annoying you.
Older and older,I’ll never leave you,but I will,no doubt, grieve you and deceive you, misperceive you.
Otherwise I’ll think of you, wink at you and make a hyperlink to you
Still, for ever,I’ll be all over you..looking for fleas in your floes, and
B’s in your Y’s.
I’ll be looking for tears in your eyes
and making you feel surprised.
That’s a love poem,innit?
Well,innit?
Wot!I’m British,innit!
Oh, geddit!

Why learning may be difficult

NextDocument 23I have several friends who are very good at some art or craft but are unable to teach another person because they can’t imagine themselves back at the beginning, not knowing how to knit or read
Teaching is harder than we think.
And how would you tell someone [in words] how to write a bicycle? Do you think that it would make them able  to get on and expec cycle away? NO!
Some people have blockages.I was with a person who asked me to explain the difference  between 0.1 and 1%
It was a disaster.I literally felt a force pushing me away.So I told her to find out some other way. And  she says I am very gentle………
Teaching is harder than we can imagine. In the last case, I had not been able to reach her where she was.I didn’t  know why she asked.
Some teachers are cruel.Perhaps they dare not imagine being a beginner again,
